Competition: Win a set of XKulcha Dakar adventure pants
Story: Harry Fisher
Summer is upon us and that naturally leads to bikes being pulled out of the garage, dusted down and long trips planned. What it also leads to is hotter temperatures in which to ride and, adventure gear being what it is things can get pretty hot very quickly, especially when in the middle of the African bush where so many of us like to ride.
Not only does adventure gear need to be cool but it also needs to protect; never an easy thing to balance but XKulcha has done the best job so far.
These are the XKulcha Dakar pants. First things first; they are a light-weight, heavy duty, all-purpose adventure trouser but more importantly, they are 100% air flow meaning that as long as you’re moving forward (or backwards, I suppose…) there will be a draft around your legs. If they get wet, they dry incredibly quickly, preventing discomfort.
They are made from tough Cordura which in itself has abrasion resistance should you fall off but in addition there is the usual XKulcha attribute of ballistic nylon lining for abrasion resistance as well as removable impact absorption pads on knees and hips. Now, Cordura and ballistic nylon are not known for their comfort rating against skin, so the pants are fully lined with a soft cotton lining.
There’s a webbing belt with quick release buckle so you don’t have to mess around with your own belt and the bottom of the legs have a zip up the calf to facilitate getting the pant over boots. Zips are all tough 10-gauge YKK items.
I’ve used a pair of these pants for a few years now and they have transformed my adventure riding from something uncomfortable to something to be enjoyed on every level.
Priced at R1890.00. Go to their webpage for info on where to buy.
