Suzuki Katana Day: Sunday, 11 August at Smokin’ Aces
This Sunday celebrates Katana Day at Smokin’ Pistons bar and restaurant at the Buzz Shopping Centre in Fourways that has been organised by the Katana Owner Group (KOG). There promises to be more than 50 Suzuki Katanas from both modern times and the ’80s, plus other displays from the Boulevard and Hayabusa clubs.
Officially, the Smokin’ Pistons event starts at 11 am but for Katana, Boulevard and Hayabusa riders, there will be a morning breakfast run. It will begin at Biker’s Warehouse in Northriding at 7 am and head out to Lindi’s Shebeen in Springs before riding back to Smokin’ Aces.
At Smokin’ Aces, there will be a Best Katana plus a Best Boulie and Best Busa competition. Each winner will receive a cash prize of R2500 with trophies for second and third places. There will also be prizes from Suzuki SA, Smokin’ Aces, Pick ‘n Pay, Van Breda Suzuki, Dunlop, Biker’s Warehouse, TMS and Yoshimura. To enter, make a donation to the Network Riders/KOG Bikers Fund.
On the day, people can purchase collectors patches, pins, T-shirts, caps and tattoos, plus there will be stands by Suzuki SA, Yoshimura, Dunlop, Network Riders, Katana Owners Group, TMS and other exhibitors.
People are invited to experience for the first time the Katana song and dance, plus dress-up Samurais with real Katana swords. Also on hand will be iconic ex Katana racers, like Keith Zeeman Les and Graeme Van Breda, Dave Petersen, Noel Haarof and TG.
Naturally, apart from all things Katana-esque, there will be the usual good food, good drinks, music and revelry from Smokin’ Aces. It promises to be a good day, indeed.
