Provisional: Young wins Day 2 at Motul Roof of Africa
It was good day for South Africa as Wade Young and Travis Teasdale took the top two spots on day two of the Motul Roof of Africa in Lesotho with last year’s champion, Englishman Graham Jarvis, coming home third.
For most of the 106km stage, it was Teasdale and Young on the KTM and Sherco riding together at a blistering pace that no one else could match as Jarvis was left a distant third.
In the last few kilometres, Young managed to pull a gap on yesterday’s overall winner Teasdale, crossing the line more than a minute ahead of the KTM rider. Jarvis was a further ten-odd minutes behind Young and Blake Gutzeit was a further two minutes behind him.
Last year’s runner-up, Spaniard Alfredo Gomez, was fifth finishing two minutes further behind, with Manuel Littenbichler and Scott Bouverie still out on the road in sixth and seventh. this means that South Africans should take four of the top six positions.
These results are those seen at the finish line, with the official times and positions are still to be posted and are subject to possible protests and penalties.
Saturday is the last day of the event, with the Sherco rider looking commanding at this point, Teasdale still hugely in contention and Jarvis looks like he has some work to do to repeat his previous success.
