Actually, it was four minutes and 32 seconds, but we will give KTM the benefit of the doubt.

Three days ago, KTM announced the track-focused RC 8C, a production limited to just 100 units, that took a 128hp parallel-twin motor from an 890 Duke. They fitted it to a bespoke racing chassis using a steel tubular frame, top of the range WP suspension developed by the MotoGP project, a MotoGP-inspired carbon-kevlar bodywork, Dymag lightweight wheels, Brembo race braking systems and racing electronics from AIM.

All that adds up to a dry weight of just 140kg.

Two days later, KTM put all 100 on sale via their website at a price of nearly R800,000 and four minutes and 32 seconds later, all of them were sold.

Of the 100, 25 customers opted for the private KTM RC 8C Track Experience that will take place at Jerez from 7-9 October, where they will not only have their bikes handed over, but they will ride alongside Red Bull KTM MotoGP test riders Dani Pedrosa and Mika Kallio.

It is still unclear whether any of these exclusive track machines are making their way to South African shores, but as soon as we find out, you can bet that they will have a line of motorcycle journalists camped outside their door. We might be among them.
