Holeshot Motorcycles becomes
a Husqvarna dealer
Holeshot Motorcycles, the popular dealer on Northrand Road in Boksburg, is to become a Husqvarna motorcycle dealer. This is interesting news for the East Rand business, that is still owned by the forever enthusiastic De Rapper family of Alex and his two sons, Garith and Warren, who have run it since its opening in 1997. Until now they have been dealers in Kawasaki, Triumph and Sym, that all falls under the umbrella of KMSA who import and distribute them.
Husqvarna is something else completely. It is imported by Husqvarna Motorcycles South Africa that is a direct subsidiary of the Husqvarna factory, meaning a different method of ordering units and spares plus, of course, different branding. As the Husqvarna brand was purchased by KTM owner Stefan Pierer in 2013, the service, spares and stock models run on a similar basis to KTM, which cannot be a bad thing as they are currently Europe’s biggest bike manufacturer.
These are all the challenges that face Holeshot, and overcome them they should. This will entail a more off-road focused theme to the store, but Garith was formerly an MX and supermoto racer, plus the store has become somewhat experts at KLR650s. From next year, things should change even more when Husqvarna release the Witpilen and Svartpilen retro road models, that should complement Holeshot’s already impressive Triumph retro bikes.
More importantly, and in the broader scheme of things, Holeshot shall reign over a Husqvarna empire. With their dealership in Boksburg, they are now the Husqvarna dealer for Boksburg, Germiston, the area around Kensington, Edenvale, Kempton Park, Benoni, Brakpan, Springs and all the land stretching to Emalahleni (quondam Witbank). This is a good deal of land over which to rule, which is good news for both Holeshot and Husqvarna.
This addition now also more completes the so called “Motorcycle Mile” on Northrand Road. You can now start on one end of the road and road test one of each make of motorcycle, except Ducati and KTM, by the time you get to the Atlas Road. That is quite a motorcycling collective.
