Day One of Rhino Rally 2108 in Hartbeespoort
Friday, 7 September 2018
Day one of the Rhino Rally 2018 got off to a happy yet somewhat wet start. Despite weatherman assurances, pockets of showers made their way – under the radar, quite literally – over the Hartbeespoort Holiday Resort drenching rally-goers every few hours.
While this continued for most of the day, it looks like all the big clouds are past and we can expect warm and clearer weather for the rest of the weekend, according to the weatherman once more.
There is much to look forward to at the Rhino, that moves to Hartbeespoort this year, with bands like Andre “Die Heupe” Van Der Rheede, who is alive and energetic, interacts well with the audience, has many dedicated biker fans and will do three one hour appearances at the Rhino. DZL (pronounced “Diesel”) will be there. “DZL are known as South Africa’s sexiest boy band and we sure can’t argue,” wrote Getit magazine. The culprits are Andries Hendrik Potgieter and Wiaan Fourie, both professional models as well as singers, together since 2014. The Heuning duo do “Tipiese Afrikaans musiek met ‘n nuwe country klank wat jong mense ook sal geniet,” said Jeanette, the beautiful blonde lead singer. They also do rock and covers in English and Afrikaans.
And, naturally, regular rally music legends like Clint & Co, Backbone and Black Water will be there.
Apart from bands, there are food stalls, a flea market, a beer tent and the famous Le Riche Brothers trial show on Saturday, plus the usual socialising, drinking, eating and merriment.
The entrance fee is R250 per person with this fee being reduced to R150 from 9am on Saturday morning. The entry fee for cars is R200 per car. The gate will be open and taking entries until early Sunday morning. Camping is free within the 20 hectare resort.
