Darryn Binder Jerez Day 1: “I am convinced that we will find the way”
Things didn’t go as planned for Darryn Binder at Jerez today aboard his Red Bull Ajo KTM Moto3 bike. The morning session was a mere 18º, and he worked on getting comfortable on the bike and with the track, pulling into the pits just once during the 40 min session. The going was tough, though, and he finished in 22nd place.
The afternoon session was the exact opposite, with the track temperature soaring to 41º, and while most of the field improved, Binder was unable to match his morning time, and slipped down to 27th in the time sheets.
This is not good news for the young South African, who qualified in tenth place here last year and was in contention for a race win before getting bumped off while in the leading group. Despite the difficult beginning to the Jerez weekend, he still seems optimistic.
“The truth is that today was not our best day. We struggled on the bike and never felt comfortable. These are not the same feelings that we had in preseason, but neither do they allow us to go fast. We have to find the perfect combination between my riding and the bike.
After FP2 we have sat down with the team to analyse where we are at, and I think we have already found some solutions. I am convinced that we will find the way. I will try to be positive for tomorrow, I’ll be ready and I’ll work hard again. We hope to find that missing switch that allows us to make a leap up the timesheets.”
